The challenge
KDHF pays for children to have dental surgery under general anaesthetic and runs free screenings in schools and communities. It needed a website that makes giving easy, explains its programmes, shows the families it has helped and credits its many partners — all on the phones most of its visitors use. The team had to be able to update the site themselves, and it had to be live in time for the November surgical campaign.
What we built
Donations first
A Donate button on every page. The donation form offers once-off or monthly giving with preset or custom amounts, EFT details are close at hand, and card payments can be switched on with a single setting.
Campaign banner
A banner across every page promotes the current campaign. Staff change its text in one file, and visitors can close it.
Video testimonials
Parents and volunteer dentists tell their stories on video, with subtitles — including one in isiZulu with an English translation.
Partner showcase
A scrolling logo strip on the homepage and a full grid on the Partnerships page credit the hospitals, universities, government and corporate supporters, each linked to their own site.
Smile Ambassador sign-up
Volunteers in any province or country can sign up by email or WhatsApp, with their details filled in for them.
Built for phones
Every page is designed mobile-first, and images are resized automatically so pages load quickly on mobile data.
Easy for the client to manage
All text, photos, videos, statistics and partners live in plain, commented content files — one per page. If a file name is mistyped or a required field is missing, the site won't publish and points to the exact line to fix, so mistakes never reach the live site.
How we worked
We built in quick rounds of client feedback, often turning screenshots and notes into updates the same day. Nothing was invented: any detail not yet confirmed showed as a highlighted placeholder until the foundation supplied it. We also prepared the photos — including removing children's names from patient photos — wrote up the videos, chose the quotes and moved the site onto its own domain.
